The Annapolis, Maryland, based Sweet Leda—JULIE CYMEK (vocals), JAIME HORRIGAN (bass guitar), OMAR ELDIEAHY (guitar) and DON BOYETTE (drums)—know how to get the party started. The four blend new school funk, blues and rock into a stew so red hot, you can feel the flavor from the first bass lick. Cymek’s deep, bluesey wail is familiar and fun, a bopping, rhythmic sneer that’s just as much Mary J. Blige as it is Janis Joplin. And when the band adds in the tenor sax of regular contributor Ron Holloway—who’s worked alongside legends Susan Tedeschi, Warren Haynes, Dizzy Gillespie and more!—Sweet Leda are a full force of nature, and not one to be reckoned with. The band are regular invites to festivals around the country, and are no strangers to the Ladybug stage, where they made a name for themselves around town in 2014 thanks to a no-holds-barred approach where they dive right in, the sole purpose to get the crowd moving and hips shaking.
