The Former First Lady appeared last night at the Wells Fargo Center!
Mayor Mike Purzycki sent 34 young people from Wilmington to Philadelphia last night to see former First Lady Michelle Obama at the Wells Fargo Center. The Mayor used free tickets he received from Mrs. Obama’s office and arranged the transportation for the young people and their chaperones. Mrs. Obama has begun a nationwide tour to promote her book entitled “Becoming.”
Michelle Obama’s book is autobiographical and described by her as a deeply personal telling of her roots and how she found her voice, as well as her time in the White House, her public health campaign, and her role as a wife and mother.
“When the former First Lady’s office contacted me earlier this month offering free tickets, I knew we had to make this a special night for some of Wilmington’s youngest fans of Mrs. Obama,” said Mayor Purzycki. “This was a wonderful opportunity for them to hear about the life of a living historical figure that they knew about and admired.”
The 34 young people who attended last night’s event were from the State’s Youth Rehabilitative Services Program, the Achiever’s Program, the Youth Advocacy Program, and the Bethel AME Church Young People’s Department. The Mayor said he is most appreciative of the former First Lady for making the tickets available to the youth from Wilmington.
