Philly’s hottest new vocal ensemble, Variant 6 (Jessica Beebe, Rebecca Myers, Elisa Sutherland, Steven Bradshaw, James Reese, and Daniel Schwartz) is a virtuosic vocal sextet that explores and advances the art of chamber music in the 21st Century. Here they present a program that traces the influence of the madrigal from its roots in Italy to the German parodies of Schütz and the courtly music of Charpentier and Lully. Themes of pastoral love and attraction appear again and again as the program tracks across Europe. PROGRAM Madrigals – Gesualdo, Strozzi, Marenzio, Rossi Italian Madrigals – Heinrich Schütz Volgendo il ciel (Madrigals Book XIII) – Claudio Monteverdi Selections from Ballet Royal d'Alciadne and Italian airs – Jean-Baptiste Lully Amor Vince – Marc Antoine Charpentier with guests Sarah Kenner, violin; Toma Iliev, violin; Matt Zucker, cello; Benjamin Katz, keyboards.Admission: $20 ($10 students) | $25 at the door
